When Can I Join or Change a Medicare Advantage Plan?

Medicare's annual Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15 through December 7. During this period, people with Medicare can join, drop or switch Medicare Advantage plans, with changes generally taking effect January 1.

If you are already enrolled in Medicare Advantage, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs from January 1 through March 31. During that period, you can generally make one change to another Medicare Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare. Certain life events can also create a Special Enrollment Period.
